The 28th to 30th April 2017 see the return of St Neots rugby club's annual big weekend, supporting local charities with three days of fun and entertainment celebrating the sport of rugby.
This year our Festival will be supporting two very worthy local charities, Zachery’s Aim and The Woodlands cancer centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. We hope to raise funds to assist six year old Zachery Smith from St Neots, Zachery has cerebral palsy and is due to undergo a privately funded operation to assist him to walk independently. Post procedure Zachery will require further privately funded assistance with his recovery in terms of physio and equipment in order to provide him with the best chance of making this procedure a success. We also aim to support the Woodlands cancer centre in their continued efforts to provide treatment to those battling cancer within our local community. We hope to raise funds to assist the Woodlands centre in ensuring patients stay in the department is as pleasant as possible as well as purchasing extra equipment, providing community grants to patients, courses for nursing staff and complementary therapy sessions for patients receiving chemotherapy
In previous years we have raised in excess of £15,000 for charities such as Help for Heroes, a local St Neots girl with Phace syndrome, Magpas, The Teenage Cancer Trust, Wooden Spoon, Beating Bowl Cancer and England Deaf Rugby
So what’s going on?
Friday 28th April - 6pm until late
The Festival will be launched by the future Saints at 6pm when our under 13’s ad 15’s will hopefully be hosting two friendly fixtures. Both teams have enjoyed a successful season with players being selected to join the East Midlands DPP, both games should provide a fantastic display of what our future rugby talent has to offer.
At 7pm our Friday Night Lights Touch Rugby Competition kicks off, this event is open to everyone and anyone! All you need is a minimum team of six players, male or female, young or old, no experience is necessary and as its touch it’s nothing physical apart from running. All that is required is a willingness to take part and have fun, there is £50 and a trophy up for grabs for the overall winning team. So why not get a team together and take part, the cost is £25 per team which will help raise funds for our two charities. Team entry and registration can be made by contacting: email@example.com
