A tough day on the common, made more difficult with only 15 players being available for the match against Huntingdon Stag's 20 players.
From the kick off St Neots knew they were in a game, the stags attacked and attacked getting over the our gain line, only to fail to some dominating tackling from the forwards, this enabled them to win the ball and clear their lines. Talking to the Saints parents after the match, The stags assumed they were going to win by 70 pts by half time. This clearly wasn't going to happen. They Stags parents were clearly frustrated. 20 mins into the game The Stags managed to get the ball out to their winger who had an overlap and they scored, they converted 0-7. Not long after that they got over the try line to score again 0-14. That was the half time score.
The second half was a mirror of the first except the stags brought on their subs to give them fresher feet. Saints had to make do and worked very hard to get back in the game, Conner Harrison's fantastic 30m run, to be dashed by the ref's bazaar decision. Rory Diggermans quick runs from the back of the scrums. Billy Haverson's runs from inside centre. Hard tackling from Finn Martin, Kieran Arber, Louis Thorton were knocking them back. The Saints just couldn't break the stags line. Sam Foulkes during a ruck had his ear ripped and had to go off. Saints were down to 14 players. He didn't come back on. Stags then scored a disputed 3rd try, unfortunately the ref didn't see the stags infringement. They converted 0-21. The final play of the match Stags scored again 0-28. It was a great display by Saints, under different circumstances they would have beaten them by a big margin.
