Colts 24 v 7 Rushden & Higham RUFC - Away League on 19 Nov 2016

Published on Sunday, 20 November 2016

Saint Colts travelled to Rushden to play their 3rd League match.

They players have been working hard at training and was well prepared for this encounter. Rushden kicked off, it was caught well, the saints were up and running. The forwards were in great form, getting well over the gain line with their hammer balls. The play stalled on Rushden's 10m line. Sean Judge ( Scrum Half ) dug the ball out, past to the fast running prop Ryan Burke. He smashed his way through Rushden's defensive line, I thought he was going to score, he was taken down close to the try line. Kieran Arber was first to the tackle, protected the ball. Rory Diggerman was Next to the break down, he picked up the ball and ran it over the try line. Lucas Town converted 0-7, it was a great quick try created by forwards. Something changed from that point, the players seemed to think they can score at will, they lost shape. The ref got into the game which didn't allow a free following match teams were cancelling each other out. There were a numbfer of penalties Rushden conceded, this finally ended with one of their players being sin binned. While he was off another penalty was conceded, Lucas slotted the ball over from near the 10m line, it was a great kick 0-10 half time.

The match started Piers had made a number of changes, all was good. The forwards were still dominating, getting to the ball seconds before Rushden. Every loose ball they were winning. It was a very exciting game, after 10m saints were camped in Rushden's 22. A maul was formed, Sean got his hand on the ball and dived over the line, Lucas converted 0-17. Rushden pride was hurting now, they were desperate to score. They put Saints under lots of pressure, attacking at every opportunity. Saints defence was emence. There was another loose ball in Saint half, they won it and fed it out to the backs. Movement was excellent. It went all the way out to Kieran Humphreys, he made a great run into Rushden's 22, he got tackled but before going to ground past it to Rory, he dived over the line to score. Lucas converted 0-24. Rushden were still not finished. They kept on trying to score and they were rewarded with a try and conversion. Final score 7-24
