Under 17 40 v 24 Stockwood Park - Away Cup Draw on 11 Sep 2016

Published on Sunday, 11 September 2016

First game of the season straight into a Cup match against Stockwood Park.... Preparation wasn't the best the M1 had been closed with a number of the players caught up in it...

Stockwood Park had 25 players, Saints had only 16.

When the game finally got started Saints kicked to the opposition who subsequently caught the ball and ran in their first try and converted. We tried again, this time it was a better kick off and we started to play some delightful rugby. 10 minutes into the game, the forwards dominated the play, ferocious tackling leading to the ball going to Lucas who bundled the ball over the line, not converted. Stockwood then stepped up wanting to play in our half and did this resulted in 2 quick try's for them, 1 was converted 19 - 5. Saints heads never dropped and they continued moving forward, pushing and probing, basic work but effective. We were too powerful for them and got a penalty in front of the posts, Sean took quickly and went over another try and conversion. 19 - 12. The clock was ticking down very quickly coming to the end of the half, Josh Fulton the saints fast wing got the ball on the half way line and he danced is way over the line which was converted.

19 - 19 half time.

Stockwood changed a number of players putting on some older lads. They worked very well up front and got the first try of the half 24 - 19.... This was when Aedan Pearsal came of age. From a messy line out Aedan ran and sacked their 10 from the resulting action James picked up the ball and went over for a try it was converted 24 - 26. It was the first time Saints were ahead. You could see Stockwood heads drop. Billy went on one of his maize runs and ended up under the posts 19 - 33. Only seconds left the the ball went out 5 meters from Stockwoods try line. The ref called last play. Hooker Finn called Horny Donkey a tried and tested play. The result was a brilliant worked try scored by Sam. Final Score 24 - 40

Man of the Match Aedan
